| Abstract | Resumo Este estudo tem o objetivo de compreender como se configuram as formas de apoios oferecidos pela rede social as familias no trabalho de protecao e socializacao das criancas de uma comunidade da periferia metropolitana na cidade de Sao Paulo. Por se tratar de uma pesquisa qualitativa, foram utilizados para essa coleta de dados, entrevistas reflexivas realizadas nas casas das familias participantes do estudo. A analise dos dados nos moldes da grounded-theory indica que as familias possuem vinculos com outras pessoas e instituicoes fora do espaco familiar, apontando para uma significativa rede social que fornece apoio na tarefa de protecao e socializacao de criancas. Concluiu-se que as redes sociais formadas pela vizinhanca, igreja e creche parecem desempenhar importantes funcoes no cotidiano dessas familias, expostas a privacao e a condicoes adversas de vida. ABSTRACT This study aims to understand how to configure forms of support offered by the social network for families in protection work and socialization of children on the outskirts of a metropolitan community in Sao Paulo. Because it is a qualitative research, ware used to collect data reflective interviews that were conducted in the homes of families participating in the study. Data analysis along the lines of grounded-theory indicates that families with ties to other people and institutions outside the family, pointing to a social network that provides significant support in the task of protection and socialization of children. It was concluded that social networks formed by neighborhood, church and child care appear to play important roles in the daily life of these families, exposed to harsh conditions and deprivation of life.
