Abstract	This paper is meant to perform an analysis of local production systems and their roll in development management in Cuba which favor systematization of the concept and an approach to a definition suited for the characteristics and conditions of the Cuban economic model. Both theoretical and empirical methods were used in the accomplishment of this objective, based on the materialistic-dialectic vision in the analysis of processes covered by this work, as well as the utilization of information-gathering instruments and expert advice. A definition of Local Production Systems is proposed specifically for Cuba, and it is also demonstrated the necessity for instrument design, procedures or methodologies allowing identification and formation of LPS in the national ambit, the latter being acknowledged as still non-solved scientific problem.
