| Abstract | This study analyses the effect of crossbreeding between MurcianoGranadina goats and Boer bucks on females’ reproductive traits and growth traits and carcass characteristics of Murciano-Granadina (MG) purebred kids comparing crossbreeded kids (BM). Kids were fed with a commercial milk replacer and were slaughtered at 9 kg live weight. Reproductive traits (fertility and prolificacy) did not differ significantly between female groups. BM kids showed higher birth weight (BW; 2,67±0,066 kg vs. 2,18±0,054 kg; P<0,01), higher average daily gain (ADG; 143,8±2,87 g/day vs. 94,1±3,62 g/day; P<0,001) and lower age at the slaughter weight (45,0±1,74 vs. 74,5±2,20 days). Better carcass yields and higher carcass compactness index were observed on BM kids.The fact that in this study have been observed improvements on BM kids growth traits (BW and ADG) also having higher carcass yields, suggests that making this crossing might be interesting for breeders. |
