| Abstract | The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of maize to two sources of nitrogen, and the influence of time of nitrogen fertilization on yield of corn grown in a reduced row spacing under no-tillage system. The experiment was conducted in the 2005/06 growing season, in Coimbra, MG, Brazil. The soil was classified as an Acrisol dystrophic phase terrace. A randomized blocks experimental design was used, in a factorial scheme (3 x 7) with four replications, being the factors: three hibrids (AG 9010, P 3041, DKB 333), seven treatments: 1 pre-planting with urea, 2 preplanting with calcium nitrate, 3 planting with urea, 4 planting with calcium nitrate, 5 application of urea during the vegetative stage 4 th leaf fully expanded, 6 application of calcium nitrate at the vegetative stage of 4th fully expanded leaf and 7 30.4 kg ha-1 nitrogen at planting. The cultivar P 3041 showed better performance in the evaluated characteristics, except for nitrogen content. The timing of N application did not affect rates of productivity of maize. |
