| Abstract | Rotavirus is the main etiologic agent associated with gastroenteritis in young children and animals worldwide, causing acute diarrhea in goat's kids aged 1-8 weeks in Spain, France, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and Italy. In Venezuela the prevalence of rotavirus in pigs and cattle is between 20-30%. In Lara state acute diarrhea is the main condition observed in goats, what motivates to assess impact of rotavirus on diarrea etiology in goat ́s kids. The research describes preliminary results of the study of rotavirus in goats kids feces diarrheal or not diarrheal in 8 sheepholds located on villages "El Cercado and Paso Real" Lara State. Detection was performed by double sandwich ELISA based on protein of viral internal capsid VP6 and the typification by analysis of electrophoretic migration pattern in polyacrylamide gels (PAGE). Data were analyzed using nonparametric statistics (? 2, P <0.01), using the statistical software Minitab 15.0. Of 126 samples collected, 18 were positive for rotavirus, showing a characteristic electropherotype for rotavirus group A. The rotavirus detection rate was 14.27%, being 9.5% in diarrheals and 4.77% in not diarrheals, these differences were statistically significant (? 2 = 16.784, P <0.01), leading to conclusion that rotavirus group A should be considered an important etiologic agent in studying neonatal diarrhea in goats kids. These results give beggining to future prevalence studies that will establish criteria for management and prevention of diarrhea in goat's kids. |
