| Abstract | Resumen. Abstract. TITHONIAN (UPPER JURASSIC) CALCAREOUS MICROFOSSILS FROM THE EASTERN NEUQUEN BASIN, ARGENTINA. Benthic foraminifers, ostracods and calcareous nannofossils from the Vaca Muerta Formation in boreholes drilled in the eastern Neuquen Basin, central–western Argentina, are described and illustrated. The monospecific assemblages of the foraminifer genus Epistomina and the ostracod Cytherella typify a marine environment with low energy regime and oxygen depressed sea–bottom conditions. Nannofossils association corresponding to the lower part of Zone NJK indicates a lowermost Upper Tithonian age. One species, Epistomina viviersae sp. nov., is described. |
