| Abstract | This research aimed to investigate the presence of music in the pedagogical practices of infant school teachers. More specifically, it aimed to map out the musical activities developed by the teachers, to identify the resources available in the schools and the needs pointed by teachers to teach music in infant schools. The Brazilian Educational Law and studies on generalist teachers’ education and practice constituted the theoretical framework that guided this work. The method and the technique chosen to carry out this investigation were the cross-sectional survey and the questionnaire, respectively. 123 teachers from 40 infant schools of the municipal educational system of Porto Alegre, south of Brazil, took part in the research. The results describe teachers’ education and musical preparation, their pedagogical practices in music, the basis that sustain their teaching practices, as well as the needs felt by the teachers to develop music teaching in infant schools. The conclusion points the main contributions of this research to the field of music education. |
