| Abstract | In this work, we investigated the dominant dimensions of multidimensional poverty in Senegal between 1994 and 2001. Our main objective was to identify the trends of different aspects of poverty in Senegal between 1994 and 2001 using a multidimensional approach. We have adopted the methodology of Dagum and Costa (2004) based on fuzzy sets, complemented by the decomposition methods introduced by Mussard and Pi Alperin (2005). The study was made by using data from ESAM I (1994) and ESAM II (2001). The findings show a relative deterioration of living conditions of Senegalese households between 1994 and 2001. Thus, the study examines the evolution of variables related to poverty between the two periods and provides information on the state of deprivation of different groups namely regions, place of residence and gender between 1994 and 2001. A contribution of different attributes to the state of deprivation of groups and the overall poverty index for each period was also highlighted. |
