| Abstract | The effect of crop rotation, monoculture, and plant density on the incidence of injuried corn (Zea mays) grains was evaluated in this work. Visual separation of grains showing symptoms of discoloration caused by fungi in the field was used to quantify the incidence. The highest incidence of injuried grains, an average of 10.02% was found in continuous cropping system, while in the crop rotation system the incidence average was 4.81%.The incidence of injuried grains was highest in both systems as plant density increased. The main fungi isolated from corn grains in crop rotation and monoculture were Cephalosporium spp., Diplodia spp., Fusarium graminearum, F. moniliforme and F. subglutinans. |
