| Abstract | When we learn a language, we should not forget that we are also learning the habits and the way that the society which speaks that language sees the world, that is, its vision of the world expressed through liguistic choices. This is the reason why Spanish as Foreign Language students‟ misunderstadings are commonly the consequence of ignoring both linguistic and cultural facts. Idioms are not only a startig point for possible lessons, but they also translate the culture, for their origin is commonly popular and ancestral. In this paper we discuss their importance for the development of students‟ communicative abilities. We also introduce strategies that can be used to teach them. |
