| Abstract | Fundament: Anxiety, depression and stress have been associated to low heart rate variability (HRV), and considered as isolated risk factors to cardiovascular diseases. Evaluation of HRV, anxiety, stress and depression in Intensive Care Unity employees. Objective: To determine the prevalence of alterations in the HRV variables and anxiety, stress and depression levels in ICU doctors and nurses. Methods: HRV analysis through recording of continuous electrocardiogram during the period of 12 hour call(Holter), along with questionnaire evaluating anxiety, stress and depression. Subjective questionnaire about Call Classification (light, moderate or intense) and Resting Period (absent, up to 1 hour or over 1 hour). Results: HRV indications in the studied population were altered in its great majority when compared to regular population, especially HF and the relation LF/HF. Concerning Call Classification there was significant statistic effect over rMSSD and LF. Concerning Rest, there was effect over pNN50 and rMSSD. Anxiety, stress and depression were minimum or absent in the studied population and do not correlate with alterations in the HRV levels. Conclusions. Stress, anxiety and depression levels did not have an effect over the HRV parameters. HF and the LF/HF relation of the intensives were altered when compared to regular population. Evaluating Rest and Call Classification, there were alterations in the variables which reflect the parasympathetic activity, making us think that the rest during the 12 hour call has an important influence on the call classification by the intensives. |
