| Abstract | Efficient dissemination of videos is an important problem for mobile telecom carriers. In this paper, to facilitate massive video dissemination, we study joint caching and multicasting for multiquality videos, encoded with scalable video coding (SVC), in large-scale wireless networks. First, we propose a random caching and multicasting scheme for SVC-based videos with a design parameter to provide high content diversity and efficient content dissemination. Then, we consider the analysis and optimization of the random caching and multicasting scheme, which are quite challenging due to the layered structure of SVC. By carefully handling different types of interferers, we derive tractable expressions for the successful transmission probability in the general user density region and the high user density region, respectively, utilizing tools from stochastic geometry. The successful transmission probability maximization in the high user density region is a convex problem with an exceedingly large number of optimization variables. We propose a two-stage optimization method to obtain a lowcomplexity near optimal solution by solving a relaxed convex problem and a related packing problem. The analysis and optimization results provide valuable design insights into caching and multicasting for SVC-based videos. |
