| Abstract | Taperebazeiro is a large tree, up to 30 m high, is commonly found in inhabited places, bordering natural drainage channels and other wetlands, is also a common species in the Amazon region where it occurs in the wild. It develops well in the North and Northeast of Brazil, in hot humid or subhumid climate, and resists long periods of drought. In the rainy season occurs greater production of fruits and these are commercialized in natura and can be consumed in the form of juices, ice cream, popsicles and creams. Of natural order the germination of taperebazeiro is slow, erratic and uneven, beginning at 160 days and ending at 844 days, reaching 76% of germination, in an average time of 456 days after sowing, and the degree of resistance to germination imposed by this structure, varies within the same endocarp. Thus, due to the economic potential of cultivation and agroindustrial exploitation, some biometric aspects of the endocarps were evaluated to identify ways to improve the sexual propagation of the species. Endocarps of five matrices of tapereba were classified by size and divided into large (G), medium (M) and small (P). The length, diameter, mass, number of locules and number of seeds per endocarp were evaluated. In the analysis of the data the sizes were considered as treatments, and each endocarp, as a repetition, totalizing 50 repetitions. The effects between sizes were tested by the analysis of variance, by the F test, and the contrasts between the means by the Tukey test at 5% of probability.
