Thesis Program Tier 1 ( one ) . Teaching Faculty of MT and the State Islamic University ( UIN ) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta . 2015 This study aims to determine how to use the monopol y game as a medium of learning in enhancing students motivation of VIII grade SMP Islam Harapan Ibu Pondok Pinang. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Researcher reveals and explains the in-depth research problem by describing the narrative data, facts, and related information. The samples are a teacher and six students of VIII grade SMP Islam Harapan Ibu Pondok Pinang. The data collection techniques are using observation, interviews, and documentation. Observational methods used to observe teaching and learning process in the classroom before and after using the monopoly game as a learning medium. Interviews are used to determine the responses of teacher and students in answering primary research question of how the use of the game of monopoly as a medium of learning in improving student's motivation in natural setting (real situation, non-experimental situation). While the documentation used to support and add the evidence obtained from other sources such as photos of the monopoly game board and activities in the classroom, transcripts of the interviews, observation sheets, and the scores of the students learning out comes after using monopoly game in order to determine changes in students learning motivation. The results indicate that: (1) The student said that after using the monopoly game in as a medium of learning in social, students becomes more attracted to study the subject. It appears that the students liked the monopoly game. (2) The Social studies teacher at VIII class SMP Islam Harapan Ibu Pondok Pinang attempts to increase student's motivation by using monopoly game as a learning medium. (3) According to the VIII grade social studies teacher at SMP Islam Harapan Ibu Pondok Pinang, after using the monopoly game as a learning media medium, student’s motivation have been increased, because it appears that students are interested to study more in social studies lesson when monopoly game is used as medium of learning. |
