Abstract	Numerous factors have been sought to explain the paradoxical phenomenon found in Canarian society at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th: The absence of social conflict given the hard living conditions of that time. The paternalism of the landowners or emigration as a solution, are answers to a contradiction explained in this work. Furthermore, it is found a new point of view of the social conflict of the archipelago through the quantifying and the study of the crimes, tried by the Canarian Provincial Courts of Justice between 1881 and 1890.
