In this reading saying that all nature has a function proper to it is to say that by nature that is necessarily called to fulfill that role. Nature then is understood both as necessary and sufficient cause to perform a specific function. In what follows we will attempt to show that this reading is wrong, since the natural arrangement, although is a necessary condition, is not sufficient to carry out a function. For that we will depart from an elucidation of two different meanings of nature in Physics II and rebuild the ergon argument in light of these new elements.
