| Abstract | Best management practices (BMP) in agriculture are the effective ways to reduce the agricultural non-point source pollution from their source area to the receiving water bodies. With appropriate utilization of Best Management Practice the impact from the sediment to the water bodies could be minimized. In this study, Hydrological model Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is used in predicting monthly sediment yield and to suggest the best management practices to control sediment yield. In this study fifteen years flow data is used for model calibration and validation, the Markhandeya watershed in Ghataprabha sub-basin is selected for the study. The BMPs incorporated for the simulation of model include filter strips, stream bank stabilization and check dams. The results will help in deciding suitable conservation practices to be implemented over the watershed to reduce sediment transport. |
