| Abstract | The phrase "crisis of the church" implies a global diagnosis that the historian hesitates to make. However, my knowledge of Russian history leads me to pro pose an initial thesis. One of the key elements of this "crisis"?of which the Church has yet only a confused awareness?is the invasion of its body, and particularly of its clergy, by Leninist ideology. Whether in its pure form or in a mitigated form, sometimes presented as orthodox, it is substantially the same ideology.
