| Abstract | In 2009, with the rise of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States, there was a reorganization of the North American power, distended, in all its aspects, in the government that preceded to him, as a result of the option to fight in two simultaneous wars, the unilateralism of George W, Bush and the economic crisis of 2008. The actions undertaken by Obama in the international field had a direct or indirect impact on several actors in the International System. In this context, the present paper presents an analysis of how the US foreign policy in the "Obama Era" impacted on Brazil's foreign policy, mostly regarding to the achievement of Brazil's main external objectives. For this, a bibliographical and qualitative research was carried out, using as parameter of analysis the Joseph Nye’s theory of power. As a result, it was found that the United States allowed a limited expansion of Brazilian prestige, especially on secondary issues of the international agenda and used the Brazilian aspiration to a seat in the UN Security Council to weaken the Brazil's position in South America, where the US demonstrated to have warring interests regarding the Brazilian objectives, on which they exerted negative impact. Thus, it was possible to verify that Obama's foreign policy had a negative impact on Brazilian foreign policy, mainly due to the oversized aspirations of Brazil, without having any effective power to guarantee it. |
