| Abstract | i. INTRODUCTION: The specialties and health topics websites are one of the high value-added services of Infomed. They constitute strategic components of the network and are inserted into its purpose as one of the main pillars for social interchange and participation. ii. PURPOSE: To identify the behavior of the specialties and health topics sites of the Infomed network regarding their behavior as communities of practice in virtual environments. iii. METHODOLOGY: A descriptive study was conducted, including all the specialties and health topics sites of Infomed, from January to July of 2016. The variables used were: website type; presence of the discussion/distribution list, blog, forum, comments; site publishing time; editor’s working time. iv. RESULTS: Eighty-one sites were studied. The integration of the web 2.0 tools in the development of these spaces is still insufficient. Less than half the published sites contain a discussion list (44.4%) and the use of comments and blogs is lower than 15%. The elements to be considered in the design of a strategy for the development of health communities of practice in virtual environments were identified. v. CONCLUSIONS: The specialties and health topics websites of Infomed constitute the logic setting for the construction of virtual communities of practice for health knowledge management in the Cuban context. |
