| Abstract | The self-image of the body is the figure we have in our mind as to the size, structure and shape of our body and the feelings about these characteristics, is the descriptive part that the individual has of himself. Faced with the distortion of the body, some alternatives are taken, among which the most common are dietary practices characterized by low caloric intake and excessive physical exercise, with the aim of modifying the self-image. In view of the above, this study aimed to analyze the perception of the body self-image of individuals served in the "Nutrition in Motion" extension project and its effect on eating habits and physical exercise practice. To evaluate the sociodemographic aspects, a questionnaire was used according to the criteria of the Brazilian Association of Research Companies. The evaluation of the perception of the body image was made through the Stunkard Scale of Figures. Weight and height were collected for the calculation of body mass index and classification of nutritional status. To evaluate eating habits, "how is your food?" The Ministry of Health test was applied. The Brazilian version of the Commitment Exercise Scale was used to evaluate the degree of adherence to physical exercise. Twenty-two individuals with a mean age of 22 participated in the study. Concerning the sociodemographic data, a higher frequency of young adults (82.6%) was observed. In relation to the occupation, higher frequency of students (73.9%), in relation to the economic class, individuals of low economic class (73.9%). The majority of the sample resided in the state (91.3%). There was a greater tendency for individuals with a perception of distorted self-image, emphasizing that most perceived more weight than the actual nutritional status. It is possible to observe a greater number of individuals classified as eutrophic. It was verified that 100% of the sample consumed fruits, milk and derivatives, meats, eggs, vegetables and oilseeds, 90% consumed vegetables, vegetables and industrialized. In the sedentary group, 100% of the sample consumed fish, vegetables, oilseeds and industrialized, 92.3% of meat and eggs consumed, 84.6% consumed fruits, milk and dairy products and sausages. In the assessment of attitudes regarding physical exercise, a greater number of sedentary individuals is observed, followed by people with positive attitudes regarding the exercise. In the association of the perception of the body's self-image with the practice of physical exercises and eating habits, it was identified that the majority of people who saw more weight than they actually had had inadequate eating habits and sedentary lifestyle. Individuals who had body perception equivalent to their actual image practiced exercise, but also had inadequate eating habits. And people who saw less weight than actually had inadequate nutrition and were sedentary. Although there was no statistical difference in the results of the present study, when the perception of body self-image was associated with eating habits and the practice of physical exercise, it was observed that the majority of individuals presented self-image distortion, related to Inappropriate habits and sedentary lifestyle. |
