| Abstract | The role of induction is a central one to the continued existence of an organisation as it is the process used to ensure that newcomers becoming functional members of the organisation. The induction of new members is also an important consideration for the future growth of an organisation. The process of induction that newcomers experience as they enter an organisation will not only to shape how these new members will do things in the future, but also why they will do things in a certain way going forward. This case study focuses on the induction of new voluntary members in a not-for-profit environment and attempts to capture a vivid description of the induction process as they experienced it. It is hoped that the findings from the study will add to the existing research of induction in the not-for-profit environment. In particular the findings will highlight that induction is a key human resource practice in the effective recruitment and selection of new volunteers. |
