| Abstract | Men at work, women managing the granary Makhuwa society (Erati) from the thirties to 1956 A study of the Makhuwa populations (matrilineal and uxorilocal) in northern Mozambique ut the beginning of colonization. Zt is observed that certain fitnctions of basic authority had a speciJic material content : control of distribution of the product of labour, access to land and market. Lineal authority reduced the social effects of the transformations of this “material content” after integration of the people in the colonial economy until 1956 (cotton an obligatory trop, cassava replaced by sorghum). |
