| Abstract | According to the two-continua model of mental health, it is important to consider well-being together with psychopathology as both are distinct but related indicators of mental health. Considering the fact that there is limited research about the relationship between well-being and psychopathology regarding people having a disorder, the current study aims to investigate this relationship among patients with a mood-, anxiety-, personality-, and developmental disorder. More specifically, this study investigates, to what extent the two-continua model can be replicated among the mentioned target group. This study is part of an ongoing project by GGNet and uses data from the Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) database. The participants are adult patients in ambulant mental health care in the Netherlands. A total of 74 patients with mood, anxiety, personality or developmental disorder are participating in the study. The MHC-SF and OQ-45 are used to measure well-being and psychopathology. A strong negative correlation was found between well-being and psychopathology among patients with mood disorder and developmental disorder and a moderate negative correlation by patients with anxiety and personality disorder. The results also showed that every combination of well-being and psychopathology occurred within the patients. The findings support the two-continua model among patients with a mood-, anxiety-, personality-, and developmental disorder, however to a lesser degree compared to the general Dutch population. Based on these findings, it seems important to assess both psychopathology and well-being in mental health care. Moreover, it could be beneficial to focus also on promotion of well-being in addition to the alleviation of psychopathological symptoms, which should be investigated in future research. |
