| Abstract | In order to evaluate the inclusion effects levels o f extract increasing Yucca schidigera extract (YSE) in dry commercial diets for adult do gs with 21% or 29% crude protein (CP), an experiment was conduc te at the Center for Studies in Nutrition Companion Animals (CENAC), Fed eral University of Lavras. Twenty adult dogs with average weight of 14 .2 ± 1.65kg were used in two periods, with eight treatments and five replica tes per treatment. The treatments were: T1-Control 1: commercial diet with 21% CP without YSE; T2Control 1 + inclusion of 250 ppm YSE; T3-Control 1 + 500ppm YSE; T4Control 1 + 750 ppm YSE; T5-Control 2: commercial d iet with 29% CP without YSE; T6-Control 2 + 250ppm YSE; T7-Control 2 + 500p pm YSE; T8-Control 2 + 750ppm YSE. For all variables analyzed, there was not interaction between diet protein content and the inclusion levels YSE ( p>0.05). At all inclusion levels YSE were not observed differences on the nut rients digestibility; nitrogen balance; fecal score; bowel wall thickness; hematol ogical parameters (except mean corpuscular hemoglobin MCH and mean corpuscu lar volume MCV); plasma concentrations of total protein; albumin, gl obu in and the A/G ratio; serum activity of the enzyme alkaline phosphatase; total direct and indirect bilirubin; serum triglycerides concentrations, very high density lipoproteins (VLDL); high density lipoprotein (HDL); urea; pH an d urinary density (p>0.05). The level of 500ppm was effective in reducing fecal odor of animals fed a diet containing 29% CP (p<0.05). The inclusions of 250, 0 and 750ppm YSE reduced fecal ammonia concentration (p<0.05); and t he levels of 250 and 500ppm reduced the concentration of intestinal gas (p=0.0558). The inclusion of 750ppm YSE led to increased on hemoglobin values (p <0.05); MCV (in the level of significance p=0.0826); MCH (p<0.05), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (p<0.05). Effect was observed for the p=0.053 4 in inclusion of 750ppm for the serum concentration of cholesterol. For the diff rent contents of CP diet were observed differences in dry matter digestibili y (p<0.05); nitrogen consumed, absorbed and excreted in the feces and ur ine; fecal odor; hematocrit; blood counts; hemoglobin; total protein; serum urea and urinary pH (p<0.05). The inclusion of 500ppm YSE has greater effect on r educing the fecal odor dogs fed diet containing 29% CP and new studies are nece ssary to determine the high inclusion effect YSE on diet of dogs to long term. |
