| Abstract | In this bachelor thesis we propose a new form of user authentication based on images. We present a system in which a user logs in by clicking on a sequence of specific points in an image. In contrast to earlier work the user is not presented the same picture every time he logs in. He sees a new random picture showing the same object from a different viewing angle and in a changed illumination. We present an analysis of the security of the system. We further present a user study showing the usability of the system. Participants used the system to create an own password and to login with their password. Acknowledgement I would like to thank my advisors Heike Busch, Stefan Katzenbeisser, Michael Goesele and Stefan Roth for their valuable advice and help in completing this bachelor thesis. I would like to express my gratitude towards GRIS for providing me with the computational power and the hard drive capacity I needed for my work. My appreciation goes to all students at GRIS for our conversations on and off topic. My thanks also go to all attendees of the user study for participating and providing me with valuable comments. I would like to thank all my fellow students for reading this thesis and correcting the mistakes and my family for enduring my temper during the months of work. My gratefulness goes out to all Flickr users who provide their photographs for us to use. Without all these people our work would not be possible. |
