| Abstract | Studies on the interaction of different techniques of soil and residue management of forest plantations with the soil fauna were accomplished in experiments with Eucalyptus in Mogí Guaçu, SP (hybrid of Eucalyptus urophylla x grandis), and São Miguel Arcanjo, SP (Eucalyptus grandis). The treatments were applied on planting time, in 1998, and the evaluations of the soil fauna, biomass (of leaves, branches and total), litter and soil mesofauna were performed from 04/04/2001 to 04/04/2004. To collect soil fauna adapted Berlese funnel were used. The samples were placed in an exposition camera and submitted to artificial light for organism capture. The fauna was quantified and classified under microscope stereoscope, in agreement with the zoological group and correlated with the treatment. The results displayed that the soil management, especially residues from forest harvesting, plays an important function in the balance of the soil fauna. The maintenance of the residues of the forest harvesting on place enhanced the soil fauna. This process plays an important function in the decomposition of the tree residues, accelerating the recycling of minerals nutrients, returning to the soil more quickly those minerals, and consequently, contributing to the development and sustentability of the planted forests. |
