| Abstract | The extension of the northern jetty in 1974, designed to ensure sufficient water depths in the existing access channel to the port and to preserve the inner basin from wave agitation, resulted in the artificial interruption of the southward oriented littoral drift. It led to an important accretion of the northern beaches of Capbreton and Hossegor and erosion of the littoral located south of Capbreton. The erosion issues had direct impacts on tourism, bath activities and amenities of the City and can endanger the protection structures as well as back dune installations. The present study was aimed at providing the City Council with materials for answers about developments, preservation and protection of the littoral with respect to the future shoreline evolution. 1). |
