| Abstract | Rubio, L. 2008. Technical and economical characterization of the Re ina cattle breeds in el Pino Rivas, Nicaragua. Graduation Project (Thesis) of the B.S. program in Agricultural Sciences and Production, Escuela Agrícola Panameric ana, El Zamorano. Reina cattle breed is adapted to tropical dry condi tions of Nicaragua, where is used in beef and diary production. The study was done from April to July 2008, with the registers from 1998 to 2007. The productive variables are: 2209 ± 1399 kg of milk production per lactation, 7.74 ± 1.8 kg average daily productions, 274 ± 151days of lactation, 30 ± 11 kg average weight at birth and 164 ± 35 kg average wei ght at wean. The reproductive variables are: 464 ± 107 calving intervals, 185 ± 1 01 number of days open, 89.41 ± 0.04 % of nativity, 5.21 ± 0.04% of mortality in calf an d 4.19 ± 0.03% in adults, 2.27 ± 1.6 births per animal, 1.24 ± 0.53 services per concept ion, 0.65 ± 0.41% reproduction problem by discarding. The economical projection fo r 10 years show that the average cost per liter is $0.14 and the average price per liter is $0.54. The average gross margin is $95,662 per year, getting an average gross margin p er liter of $0.40 and an average profitability of 22% per year. |
