| Abstract | The general goal of this work is to analyze the agrarian reality of the Ribeirão region, observing the influence that AGASA had there taking into account that it has changed the destiny of several agriculturalists and their respective families. This paper approaches the agrarian systems evolution in Ribeirao region in the Indian settlement period until Açúcar Gaúcho S/A (AGASA) bankrupt and the consequent migration of the agriculturalists of the region to the nearest cities and also Porto Alegre. It approaches the influence AGASA had in this evolution process. Some factors which lead to the agrarian changes in this region and its consequences for the local agriculture are identified. In order to accomplish the goals mentioned above, bibliographical research to paper related to AGASA existence, observation of some proprieties in the region as well as some interviews. Also papers in AGASA closed files were accessed, besides of interviews with four rural properties owners, located nearby the mill and actors involved with AGASA.The paper introduces the contextualization of Santo Antônio da Patrulha county, AGASA and Ribeirão region characteristics. Then, the region agrary systems evolution features are presented, since the Indian Agrary System, going through the Colonial Portuguese System, followed by the Modern and Contemporaneous Systems. These two latter ones were influenced by Agasa opening and closure. This paper tries to contribute to the awareness of the local agrarian history counting on the significative influence that AGASA had to the region and surrounding areas. The paper tries to understand the reasons why this is now a dormitory place, for people who, live there work in Santo Antonio and Caraa and just come back home in the evening to spend the night and sleep. Research shows that there is little agriculture in the region now. Only some old agriculturalists keep on planting for their own consume. Most of the young people in this region work in shoes and metallurgic factories in Santo Antônio da Patrulha. |
