| Abstract | The present paper underlines the importance of the question of selection of migrant workers, from the point of view of the effects of migrations and the transfer of funds on the economic growth of developing countries. Subsequent study is made of the possibility of strategic transfers as introduced by Stark (1995), a notion which is contested by the introduction of three considerations. On the one hand, the idea is introduced that employees in industrialized countries are unable to distinguish clearly between the different migrant communities present, to such a degree that these are more or less inter-assimilated and with the result that the efficiency of eventual strategic transfers is reduced. On the other hand, the authors introduce the possibility of migration as self-employed persons and the individual preferences characterized by a certain degree of altruism. These last two points aim here at supplying testable implications so as to distinguish more clearly between strategic and altruist motives. LA PERTINENCIA Y LAS IMPLICACIONES DE LA TEORIA DE AUTOSELECCION ESTRATEGICA DE LOS TRABAJADORES MIGRANTES Resumen En este articulo tratamos de la importancia de la cuestion de la seleccion de los trabajadores migrantes del punto de vista de los efectos de las migraciones y de las transferencias de fondos sobre el crecimiento economico de los paises en vias de desarrollo. A continuacion nos interesaremos a la posibilidad de transferencias estrategicas introducidas por Stark (1995) y que nosotros discutimos presentando tres consideraciones. Por una parte, introducimos la idea de que los empresarios de los paises industrializados no pueden distinguir perfectamente diferentes comunidades de migrantes juntas, de manera que, estas, siendo mas o menos asimiladas las unas a las otras, la eficacia de posibles transferencias estrategicas se ve entonces reducida ; Por otra parte, introducimos la posibilidad de migraciones como trabajador independiente y de las preferencias Region et Developpement 17 individuales caracterizadas por un cierto grado de altruismo. Estos dos ultimos puntos de vista tienden aqui a alegar implicaciones que se puedan someter a pruebas capaces de discriminar mejor los motivos estrategicos de los motivos altruistas. |
