| Abstract | The purpose of this study was to describe the use of internet GERKATIN deaf community in Surabaya, and the motives that influence the deaf in utilizing their internet. Significance of this study is expected to be a information for the deaf are still not familiar with the internet, so the deaf can utilize it positively. The study was conducted using a quantitative research methods and the type of descriptive research because the researcher intends to generalize the data and analysis. The theory used is the theory of uses and gratification. The method used is the method of survey with 70 respondents obtained by purposive sampling system. The results of this study indicate that the GERKATIN deaf community realize utilization based motives and systems in use of the internet. Based on the five background motive in using the internet, among others; cognitive, affective, personal integration, social integration, and diversion. Deaf most widely use the internet because it is based on the cognitive motives. As for the system of internet use, the most respondents access the internet at home than other places with the frequency of use 7 times a week, and was listed on the type of heavy users. As for the devices, smartphone is the most often used with access cost in the lowest category each month |
