| Abstract | The hip dysplasia (HD) is one of the most common orthopedic diseases that affect dogs of large and giants breeds. It’s a multifactorial diseases, in which genetic, environmental, nutritional and hormonal factors contribute to its development. Its progression cause degenerative changes usually irreversible. The definitive diagnosis of diseases can only be done after the animal is two years old, but early diagnosis os disease by clinical signs and radiographic changes, is important to prevent worsening of the disease and allow preventive measures are adopted. The treatment of HD can be medicated, called the conservative, or surgical, that can be used in a preventive manner, palliative or salvage, depending on the technique used. One of the preventive techniques is the juvenile pubic symphysiodesis. This should preferably be made in animals aged between 16 and 20 weeks have some risk of disease development. It’s important that animals have little or no degree of degenerative joint disease to have a good result. It’s a minimally invasive technique and is discussed in more detail in this work. |
