| Abstract | A time series refers to a sequence of observations that are ordered by time. In time series analysis, one of the important assumptions of classical linear regression independence between the error terms, is almost always violated. This causes the standard errors of the parameter estimates to be biased which in turn renders the I-test invalid. Therefore estimation of time series data requires a different approach from traditional regression analysis. This paper discusses some of the important concepts that are peculiar to time series data, and the tools for identifying and estimating the process underlying time series data. Data on the daily perceptual speed scores of a schizophrenic patient are used to demonstrate the use of some of these methods. The SASĀ® system's PROC ARIMA was used in this analysis. |
