| Abstract | In this paper the applicability of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics to model the appearance and growth of failure in Composite Materials at micromechanical level is shown. First, a basic cell with transversal debonding between fibre and matrix is studied. The appearance of a contact zone in the neighbourhood of the crack tip of the interface crack and the validity of the Interfacial Fracture Mechanics models (open model and contact model) are discussed. Then, a multi-fibre model is developed. The study is carried out by means of the Boundary Element Method. |
