| Abstract | This article is the result of a literary revision presenting the current social and economic conditions in Colombia, as well as the two primary causes of mortality in the country's population and the demographic context to finally conclude describing their influence on Colombian family health. The health situation in Colombia is given by a structurally heterogenic profile in which diseases caused by poverty and development are combined. Thus, violent deaths and chronic diseases are shown to be the two primary mortality causes. Both have influenced the transformation of family structure (family role and typology changes) and functionality (changes in behavior patterns, responsibilities and intrafamily tasks) in a negative manner. Death by violent causes affects the socially active and reproductive-age youths. Death due to chronic entities is characterized by the negative influence the process previous to the death has on the family group. The transformations on the structure and functionality of Colombian families generated by the two causes mentioned are worsened by the difficult economic, social and political conditions present in the country. |
