| Abstract | The paper discusses child labor in Brazil, investigating this social problem and the Child Labor Eradication Program (PETI). The prevalence of this kind of work is contrary to the notion of development advocated by Amartya Sen, for whom economic growth must contemplate personal and collective elevation, creating opportunities and capacities. The research is qualitative and quantitative and the results shows that, although the PETI is an important public policy, its not satisfactory, because the number of children victims of this situation in the country (1.8 million) is still very high. |
