| Abstract | Convective heat transfer coefficient is calculated for laminar flow in porous media modeled as an array of elliptic and square rods, which are displaced in square and triangular arrangements. Such information is needed when heat transport modeling in porous media treats local thermal non-equilibrium. This work considers flow through a packed bed with arbitrary solid phase temperature. Heat transfer coefficient is obtained by first solving the microscopic flow governing equations with periodic boundary conditions, integrating later the calculated fields. The numerical methodology employed is based on the control-volume approach with a boundary-fitted non-orthogonal coordinate system. Temperature distributions and the influence of the medium morphology on the average heat transfer coefficient are presented. |
