| Abstract | The history of Physical Education was marked by controversy and conceptual, epistemological and philosophical divergence in what its field of knowledge is concerned. Such fact can be noticed in research as well as in the formation of teachers and their performance in different professional contexts. As for divergence, we can say that Physical Education is a knowledge area that studies and works on the human being, and whose understanding goes beyond the limits of the "biological". Thus, it has been increasingly more urgent to think and discuss the formation of a Physical Education teacher, especially with regard to health, once it has been diverging from the demand imposed by Public Health services, which favor the biological and epidemiological components of health at the expense of the social determiners of health / disease. Because of this gap, our goal in this study was to introduce teaching strategies that contribute to the formation process of the Physical Education teacher, aiming at the development of health promotion actions under Public Health. The research, a qualitative approach with ethnographic characteristics, was held in the Physical Education Institute of the Federal Fluminense University (IEF/UFF) and used as research tools document analysis, participant observation and thematic content analysis of the narratives collected during the teaching practices applied. The results are presented in the form of a set of articles on pedagogical practices in formal and non-formal education, in order to promote the expansion of debate about health The pedagogical practices developed throughout this study have contributed, in a special way, to the strengthening of the formation of Physical Education teachers of IEF/UFF, focusing on their performance in Public Health, and have also brought up important contribution to those who supported us along this path |
