| Abstract | Os cuidados de saude em Portugal sao prestados por profissionais qualificados, dotados de competencias proprias e que atuam em complementaridade, tendo em vista o maximo bem-estar dos utentes. Nesse âmbito, os enfermeiros desempenham um papel fundamental que passa pela prevencao de complicacoes, alivio do sofrimento, promocao da independencia e salvamento de vidas. Todavia, os cuidados prestados por estes profissionais diluem-se na generalidade das intervencoes em saude, passando frequentemente despercebidos e incompreendidos. O desconhecimento da sociedade sobre o valor da Enfermagem tem-se traduzido no desinvestimento na educacao, investigacao e pratica profissional, com potenciais prejuizos para o cidadao. Torna-se crucial desenvolver competencias de comunicacao publica que permitam divulgar e visibilizar a importância do trabalho dos enfermeiros em prol da saude dos utentes e comunidades. Caring in Silence: The Voice of Nursing in Portugal Health care in Portugal is provided by qualified professionals who are equipped with specific competences, acting in a complementary way, and aiming the maximum well-being of patients. In this sense, nurses play a key role that involves the prevention of health complications, suffering relieve of patients, the promotion of their independence and ultimately saving lives. However, the care provided by these professionals is diluted in most health interventions, often going unnoticed and misunderstood. Thus, society's lack of knowledge of the value of nursing has resulted in disinvestment in education, research and professional practice of this working class with potential damage to the citizens. Consequently, it is crucial to develop skills in public communication that will allow the disclosure and visibility of the work of nurses for the health of patients and communities.
