| Abstract | Facies analysis of the lower Kirnmeridgian rocks in the outcrops of Sierra Menera-Palomera (central Iberian Chain, northeast Spain) allows to state precisely the influence of synsedimentary tectonic in a marginal sector of Iberian Basin. The studied sedimentary rocks were deposited during a rapid rise of sea leve1 (transgressive system tract of sequence J3.5; Aurell et al., 2000). During the lower transgressive system tract (Galar Subbiozone-middle part of Platyizota Biozone), sedimentation of marls with terrigenous sandy tempestites took place. Locally, these marls correspond to the simultaneous filling of a through originated by a normal fault. Offshore, middle-outer ramp marls with fossils and lime mudstones-marls alternations were deposited. At the onset of upper transgressive system tract, developed up to the lower-upper Kimmeridgian boundary, a sharp movement and detention of the fault occurred. The originated through was filled by oolitic and oncolitic bars that migrated by the action of storm induced flows channelled in the through. Over this facies, middle-outer ramp facies (lime mudstones-marls alternations with tempestites) were deposited. Both siliciclastic influence and fault activity are related to a tectonic extension developed in the Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian boundary that correspond to the beginning of the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous rift. The later siliciclastic supply reduction and fault detention reflect the attenuation of the tectonic activity. |
