| Abstract | Due to the elevated quantity of illegal child labor in Brazil, in which the highest incidence is located at the Northeast region, and considering its negatives consequences to education, health care and the privation of child leisure, the phenomenon had become relevant to study main characteristics of family and dwelling that influence the illegal insertion of children in the labor market, in the year of 2009. The study aimed to determine which social economic variables that influence in major magnitude the discriminated insertion of boys and girls in the labor market by comparing the determinants by gender. It was used the multinomial logistic model considering that the families take simultaneous decisions in choice to allocate their children between study and work. The results indicated as fundamental variables to the insertion of children in labor market the fact of the parents had worked in childhood, the age of the child, to reside in rural zone and income. Comparatively and according to the analyzed characteristics, it is concluded that when families have limited resources and need to choose between educate their sons or daughters, the boys have more chances of not studying and working and studying and working. |
