| Abstract | EU Delegations are potentially a huge strategic asset for the European Union and the achievement of a more coherent, visible and effective external action. They have gone through considerable changes in recent years, particularly since the Treaty of Lisbon came into force in 2009 and the European External Action Service (EEAS) came into being in 2010. This paper is the first in a series of Briefing Notes (BN) dedicated to how the EU’s external action actually works in practice. We aim to provide insights from the 'front line' of EU external action and to identify what influences the impact of EU Delegations on the ground, both in terms of promoting a more coherent and result-oriented EU external action. |
