| Abstract | This work presents the results regarding the geological, hydrogeological and hydrochemical surveys carried out in the area of Urussanga Hydrographic Basin. It also shows the data related to the pollution sources and the number of groundwater explotation spots in the referred basin. The Urussanga Hydrographic Basin has a drainage extension of 1064 km , covering 580 km2 in área with a average drainage density of 1,83 (km/km).It is formed by the junction of the rivers Carvão and Maior. Other trybutaries are also important: América, Caeté, Vermelho, Cocal, Ronco D ́Água, Três Ribeirões, Cocalzinho, Ribeirão da Areia, between others little more. Regarding the structural aspects, we have concluded that the most important elements are the faults. There are also, in a subordinated way, fractures and sills. We have made a cadastre of 240 water spots from which 64 refer to deep tubular wells, 98 to hand digged wells, 33 to shallow wells and 45 to surface sources. All the 240 water spots have been classed by type of use.We have made also a cadastre of 103 pollution sources. The following maps are presented (scale 1:100.000): Geologic Map, Water productivity Map, Pollution Sources Map, Hydrochemical Map, electric condutivity contour maps, pH contour maps, Mn contour map, Fe contour maps, potenciometric and piezometric contour maps. The hydrologic mapping has also permitted us to classify 11 aquifer systems, being 4 of them related to gondwanic sedimentary rocks, 4 to quaternary sediments, 1 to granitic rocks, 01 to alluvial sediments and 1 to basaltic rocks. The results off physic-chemical analysis of groundwater carried out along this study and in previous works have given us the hydrochemical classification of the different aquifer systems present in this basin.. Coal mining and treatment activities as well as industrial activities, the lack of drainage, the use of fertilizers and pesticides in the crops are the main responsible factors for water ressources contamination and soil degradation in this area. As a consequence, a large portion of the Urussanga Hydrographic Basin is in a bad environmental situation. Key-words: groundwater aquifer –hydrogeologie, Urussanga |
