| Abstract | The objective of this study is to compare patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) with treatment with "dipirona and cetoprofeno" in patients submitted to cholecystectomy. The patients were divided in two groups: PCA group, that patients received treatment with patien-controlled analgesia: and control group, that patients receveid "cetoprofeno" i.m. 100 mg q. 12 hours and "dipirona" 1 g. venous q. 6 hours. PCA group were studied first. PCA with i.v. morphine 1 mg and 8 min lock out time. During the observation period, the following parameters were recorded: arterial blood pressure, cardiac rate, patient's pain score, patient's sedation score, nausea and vomit incidence at 4h 8h 12h 24h. Respiratory rate was recorded every two hours. The patient satisfaction score was quoted at the end of the study at 24 hours. Parametric data were analysed by unpaired t tests. Non-parametric data were analysed by chi-square. The visual analogue scale were analysed by multifactor analyses of variance. Confidence interval was 95%. The two treatment groups did not differ in age, weight, surgical time and total dose of fentanil. There were no significant diferences in nausea and vomit incidence. The respiratory rate were similar in both groups. In this study, PCA was associated with better pain control, just in the fourth hour, measured by VAS pain scores and patient satisfaction than control group. |
