| Abstract | The Brazilian lato sensu postgraduate developed in an expressive, disorderly and unsupervised way, requiring constant conceptual reflections from the National Education Council (CNE) about its nature. Currently, considering the demographic transition that predicts an increase in the number of graduates of higher education, there is an effort to regulate the expansion, which goes through the fundamental discussion of the concept of specialization. Thus, the objective of this article, made through analytical-synthetic method, was to analyze the concept of specialization in the regulatory process of the Brazilian lato sensu postgraduate by means of the norms 1 Professora Mestre, Centro Universitário das Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas (FMU), São Paulo, SP, Brasil of the post-graduation available in the electronic portal of the Ministry of Education. Sections of the norms associated to the concept of specialization or relevant to its understanding were selected. This brief analysis of the normative history allows us to conclude that the advisors of the CNE took care of the concept proposed by Sucupira, preserving the nature and the characteristics of the specialization in consonance with the Law guidelines and bases of national education (LDB). At present, the concept has been expanded and made explicit to attend to all sectors of Brazilian society, which are the reason for its existence, even though this conceptualization generates operational obstacles to the long-sought regulated and supervised expansion of the Brazilian lato sensu postgraduate. |
