| Abstract | Stir Bar Sorptive Extraction (SBSE) is a sample preparation technique that integrates the sample extraction and solute concentration in one step, employing a re-utilizable probe. After all, the stir bar containing the concentrated solute(s) is introduced in a chromatograph, decreasing solute losses and analysis time. The SBSE efficiency is related to the partition coefficient of the solute between the phases, the hydrophobic character of the solute (logarithm of the octanol-water partition coefficient), the sample volume, and the stir bar dimensions. PDMS (non-polar) is the only SBSE phase available in the market. In this article, we describe the fundamental theory, the SBSE process, thermal desorption, liquid desorption, as well as the development and application of new lab-made SBSE bars. These bars are coated with phases that are more selective for polar compounds (such as PDMS/ Palavras-chave Extração sortiva em barra de agitação, SBSE processo, dessorção térmica, dessorção líquida, fases seletivas. |
