| Abstract | espanolEl debate sobre la relacion entre feminismo y lesbianismo estuvo muy presente en los anos 70 del siglo XX. Las posturas giraban en torno a la importancia del lesbianismo como instrumento politico para el feminismo. Por un lado, se afirmaba su relevancia en el movimiento de mujeres y, por otro, se consideraba al lesbianismo una practica exclusivamente privada, carente de capacidad para la transformacion social que propone el feminismo. Esta polemica pervive hasta la actualidad poniendo en evidencia las dificultades para aceptar la pluralidad del sujeto feminista. El problema no son las diferencias constatables sino la forma en que son tratadas, como ya indico con acierto Audre Lorde. Es el miedo a la ruptura lo que impulsa a reivindicar una unidad en la que inevitablemente las singularidades quedan asfixiadas, pero lo que debilita al feminismo no son las diferencias sino los ejercicios de incomprension y exclusion hacia ellas. En este trabajo se defiende que el reconocimiento y la afirmacion de las especificidades de las mujeres en su pluralidad es fundamental para el feminismo que tiene como meta la libertad. EnglishThe debate centered on the relationship between feminism and lesbianism was veryprevalent in the 1970´s. The main positions revolved around the importance of lesbianism as a politicalinstrument for feminism. On the one hand its relevance in the women’s movement was affirmed while,on the other, lesbianism was considered an exclusively private practice, lacking the capacity to impactthe social transformation proposed by feminism. This controversy survives to the present, highlightingthe difficulties in accepting the plurality of the feminist subject. The problem is not the verifiabledifferences but the way in which they are treated, as Audre Lorde rightly pointed out. It is the fear ofrupture that drives some to claim a unity in which, inevitably, the exceptions are eliminated, but whatweakens feminism are not the differences but the incomprehension and exclusion of them. This workdefends the idea that the recognition and affirmation of the specificities of women in their plurality isfundamental for a feminism whose goal is freedom. |
