| Abstract | In this paper we present a new method in order to determine the pore size distribution in a porous medium. This original technique uses the non Newtonian yield rheological properties of some fluids flowing through a porous sample. As a first approximation, we consider the Kozeny-Carman model for porous media. The pore size distribution can be obtained from the measurement of the total flow rate as a function of the imposed pressure gradient. Using some yield fluids, the mathematical processing of experimental data should give an insight of the pore-size distribution of the studied porous material. The present technique was successfully tested analytically and numerically for classical pore size distributions such as the Gaussian unimodal or multimodal distributions using Bingham or Herschel-Bulkley fluids. The technique was also successfully extended to Casson and Roberston-Stif fluids. Unlike other methods which are difficult, expensive and sometimes toxic, our method is cheaper, simpler and easy to interpret. In this paper we discuss only of the Bingham and Herschel-Bulkley models. Mots clefs : fluides a seuil, milieu poreux, distribution de tailles de pores |
