The participants of the study were 100 university graduates (male and female) who are mobile phone users and are involved in SMS rather than making telephone calls or sending full text to their acquaintances, to know that to what extent SMS is affecting their second language learning systems and habits. The quantitative data were qualitatively discussed and has been found out that short message service has proved sharp mutating service for the respondents unconsciously in respect of their language learning and producing habits. The data reflect that frequent use of SMS has mutated language learning of the users which they experience when exposed to writing skill in academic life. The spelling, grammar and syntactic systems of English language have been found mutated and affected due to the over usage of SMS about which they become conscious when they are told by their instructors, as the respondents answered. Hence, the study suggests that adults studying at universities sand are second language learners of English language should try to minimize the use of SMS and must practice full linguistic systems instead of using SMS generated language to overcome language mutation. |
